Camp La Jita Assistant Camp Director

We are currently looking for individuals to fill the following position Camp La Jita Nurse at Camp La Jita. La Jita, meaning “precious possession”, was aptly chosen as the name for our resident camp on the beautiful Sabinal River near Utopia, Texas. Camp La Jita rests on 236 acres of Texas Hill Country land, one hour and twenty minutes west of San Antonio.
Position Title: Assistant Camp Director
Essential Job Functions: The Assistant Camp Director participates as a member of the camp administration team to carry out responsibilities for the planning and implementation of Girl Scout program in an outdoor setting; responsible for the overall safeguarding of camper and staff, safety and security during activities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors all camp program activities to ensure that they follow Girl Scout program standards, safety and security guidelines, and activity checkpoints.
- Acts as a role model for campers and staff in behavior and attitude, following the Girl Scout Promise and Law, as well as camp procedures.
- Prepares and conducts program activities based on camp’s objectives.
- Assumes responsibilities of Camp Director in director’s absence.
- Supervises Unit Counselors and conducts regularly scheduled meetings.
- Assists camp director with camp administration and staff training as requested.
- Mediates disputes/disagreements between different camp operations in conjunction with camp director.
- Is alert to potential hazardous situations and follows established emergency procedures when required.
- Assists with camp staff evaluations.
- Attends administrative and staff meetings.
- Keeps necessary records.
- Coordinates opening and closing days in conjunction with administration.
- Participates in all camp activities.
- Acts as host/hostess for camp visitors and parents.
- Follows and adheres to National and Council policies, procedures, and plans.
- Operates according to ACCT standards and local operational procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements: (Minimum qualifications and experience)
- Must be at least 25 years of ager or older.
- Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Some college is preferred.
- Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR by the American Red Cross *Provided by Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas.
- Willingness to work as a team member.
- Be flexible, energetic and have a good sense of humor.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Interest in and knowledge of Girl Scout program
- Must attend 2 weeks of training - May 26-29 and June 1-5 from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Must be available to work and and reside at the camp property during the entire camp sessions June 8 – July 17, 2026.

Work Environment
- Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering camp programs.
- Work daily with exposure to the sun and heat.
General Information:
- GSSWT provides applicable trainings and certifications for hired staff.
- All meals and housing arrangements are covered by GSSWT for Overnight Camp positions.
- All staff are considered role models to all campers at GSSWT overnight camps and are expected to participate in camp activities such as all evening camp activities, meals in the lodge, evening camper supervision, and camp check in and check out.
- Compensation: $720 per week
