Job Summary: Counselors/ Counselors in Training are the primary caregivers for each camper. The counselor is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Know each girl in the unit and share the interests of each. 
  • Supervise bedtime and wakeup routines. 
  • Engage in conflict resolution between campers, as necessary.
  • Ensure that campers receive their daily medications, if necessary. 
  • Assist and direct campers in daily camp chores (called Kapers).  
  • Communicate with camper guardians on drop-off/pickup days. 
  • Assist in drop off / pick up day procedures.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings. 
  • Operates according to ACCT standards and local operational procedures. 
  • Ensure that girls arrive to the program prepared with appropriate clothing, materials, and levels of hygiene. 
  • Be aware of the health and physical well-being of the campers and report any concerns to the Residential Camp Nurse. 
  • Work with Unit Leader 2’s to help girls plan and implement activities for the unit. Camp programs may include, but are not limited to, cookouts, hiking, games, art projects and camping out overnight. 
  • Report any behavioral concerns to Assistant Camp Director or Camp Director.  
  • Report any needed repairs or supplies to Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director or Administrative Assistant. 
  • Hold campers and other staff members to principles of the Girl Scout Law, to ensure a harmonious environment. 
  • Participates in all camp activities.
  • Acts as a host/hostess for camp visitors and parents.
  • Follows and adheres to National and Council policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  

  • Must enjoy working with youths on a one-on-one basis.
  • Attend training sessions May 26 – May 29 and June 1 – 5, 2026.
  • Must be available to stay at camp for at least one week during camp sessions from June 8 – July    17, 2025, from 10:00 am Sunday morning until 6:00 pm the following Friday evening. 
  • Reliable transportation required to get to and from camp.
  • Willingness to work as a team member.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Be flexible, energetic, and have a good sense of humor.
  • Must be able to walk long distances. 

Work Environment:

  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering camp programs.
  • Work daily with exposure to the sun and heat.
  • Location: Utopia, Texas

Physical Demands:

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include heavy visual acuity.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands or arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
